I've been surfing Trip Advisor to figure out what to do on our vacation at Tenerife. First off Tenerife is not a great culinary experience (every restaurant has the same menu, but there are a few more original places)..

But that's not what I'm reviewing right now. I'm about to write about Monkey Zoo Park in Tenerife.



I was very confused when we went there, I had driving instructions from Google Earth and it said that it was right before Arona (a town up a road that goes to Teide).

Then I asked about it from a guide and she said that according to Google Earth, it's right before Arona.
Well, surprise surprise it isn't there, it's on the left-hand side of the motorway (when you're going towards Santa Cruz) and Cactus Park/Animal Zoo is right next to it.



So anyway, we found the place, it was great to be with the monkeys. The place is a park with lizards, parrots, monkeys, and even an alligator! The monkeys (the kind you can be with) are in a huge cage with doors seperating the monkeys.

I thought that the monkeys would be crazy and steal your sunglasses/cameras/jewelery etc., but actually they are very calm.
The yellow little monkeys are the ones that are more active, atleast when they see your food bag! They will try to "steal" your food and climb on you to get to the food bag.

There's iguanas and guinea pigs living with the monkeys, so if you don't like reptiles you may not like to go to the monkey cages (the iguanas are very calm and they won't even move when you go near them, but I don't recommend to go and disturb them.

Great place to visit, but in my opinion the animals need a bit more space and a little bit better environment to live in.
I don't mean that they're suffering though!

I loved Monkey Park! So much so that we went twice in a week!

I read about it on Trip Advisor and thought it sounded good. But believe it or not...it's actually even better then it sounds on here!

Easy to get to via cab/car, inexpensive and easily the best day out I had while on holiday in Tenerife.

Lots and lots of lovely little monkeys, lemurs, lizards and tortoises in large open cages that you walk through. You can feed the animals with packets of seeds/nuts that you can buy from the front of the park. I also took some dried fruit, grapes and bananas after reading the tips on here. It was definitely worth it and we received a lot of attention from the animals.

The park is quite small, but you can take your time walking through it and go back and forward as much as you like. It wasn't very busy either of the times I went - which is a good thing as you get a good look at everything.

The larger monkeys are in cages towards the back of the park and you can also feed them through the bars. They also have other animals including - birds, big cats, lizards, guinea pigs..

A great place - a must if you're an animal lover in Tenerife. There are not many places which let you get as close to the animals as this.

Totally recommended.

The Monkey Zoo is amazing, not much more to say... Dont go to Tenerife without popping in here

I am so pleased to see the positive reviews of the Monkey Park. I myself live in Tenerife and the Monkey Park is literally on my doorstep. My husband and I visited it in March and I was overwhelmed. What a fantastic place, never have I been to a zoo where you could be so free with the animals. There are various species of monkeys which you can be with in the numerous cages and I fell in love with them all. You must visit this place and take along fruit for the animals. The zoo sells a mixed bag of seeds and other dried stuff, but you will get much more pleasure taking fruit such as bananas, oranges, grapes and even tomatoes as the monkeys will love it.

In addition to the cages you can visit, with no pressure on time as it is usually very quiet, there are many species of monkeys in cages which you can also feed through the bars. There are also guinnea pigs (lots of) birds, mainly species of parrots, panthers and reptiles.

Please visit this park, although I understand why some people hope it remains a secret, but it needs visitors so remember to pay a visit next time you are in Tenerife.
