Before arriving at Rio, I thought the Corcovado would be the highlight of my trip...Well, it wasn't. It is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but it's no the #1 attraction on my list. It was smaller than I had imagined, and the majority of the time, It it covered by clouds. It's very unpredictable. It can be a clear day...You can be making your way to the top of the Corcovado mountain...And by the time you get up there, it can be completely covered. I was standing right infront of the the statue, and couln't see it...And, as soon as I got down, it was visible again...But, it's beautiful...If it's a sunny day, it's worth a visit. They recommend going on the trian through the Tijuca forest, but I went on a taxi, and loved it. I had a very informed taxi driver...We saw the forest, the monkeys, the native fruits, the houses, the favelas...It was wonderful...There are various points along the way where you can stop for pictures, but you won't be able to do this if you're on the train. The views from the top are great...This is part of Rio de Janeiro...Even if it wasn't the higlight of my trip, you have to go see it!!

You cannot see anything about Rio without seeing a prominent picture of Corcovado. You can drive to the top, ride a train or trolley, or ride a bus. Must tourists will want to imitate the statue standing in the background while a colleague snaps a pic from the outcropping.

Went up Corcovavdo in Rio in December 2005. It was magnificient! I am not one for those touristy activities in general, but this was definitely worth it. Take a cab to the train station that takes you to the top. Get in line ot buy a ticket. Your ticket will have a time on it. Don't bother getting in line to board the train until you see "Next trip is at (time on oyur ticket)" since they will ONLY board passengers with tickets for that time. Expect about an hour wait between purchase time and boarding time. On the way up, you go through a part of Tijuca National park, so keep your eyes in the treetops, you might see creatures! I saw something, but I'm not sure if it was a wild rainforest animal or a large rat!! Once you reach the top, feast your eyes on the view, it's spectacular! Enjoy!! We loved it!!
