A very nice hotel in a very good location just across the street from Ipanema Beach (in Ipanema there is just one hotel on the beach itself and it's not very nice). Hotel was renovated a few years ago and has a modern feel. Rooms are nice and spacious. We were on the 3rd floor and had no big problem with street noise, though we kept the air con on at night. Although you can miss it if you don't read all the signs, there is a nice, very small pool, a deck and a small bar/cafe on the top floor, offering very nice views of the beach and surrounding areas. Breakfast, served in both the second floor restaurant and the aforementioned rooftop cafe, was fine. We had no particular problems with the front desk staff except for having to make 2 phone calls (and go to the desk) to get the shampoo that had not been left with other toiletries in our room. There are lots of restaurants within walking distance (we took a bus to a very good Asian restaurant called Opium). We paid about $230, including tax, though package deals through travel agencies can lower that. In Rio, even Ipanema, we have always felt safer staying right on the beach than "inland." We happened to get a room due to a cancellation; front desk said the hotel was fully booked through Carnaval. Sister property, Sol Ipanema, down the beach, is a bit cheaper (though not as fancy).
