Great staff, great location and the rooms perfect for a beach holiday. I took a king bed front ocean view room with a fantastic view of Ipanema Beach . The star attraction at the hotel for me was without a doubt Luiz the barman at the rooftop bar, a very friendly Carioca and quite competent at making Caipirinhas. I would return to the hotel just to experience his hospitality again. The pool, well what pool? It's actually a large jacuzzi - but with Ipanema beach right out front, who cares? The view from the rooftop is spectacular. Yes, you have to rent the safe for a small fee which is perhaps unusual - for me the piece of mind is worth the pocket change. As for the district, it is very safe to walk around day or night, I never saw or heard of ANY trouble whatsoever in my week there. Will most certainly return.

Stayed at the Sol Ipanema in the fall of 2007 for 2 great nights, at the end of a business trip to Brazil. This is a small average comfort hotel with highly professional service and somewhat of a nice intimate ambiance. My room was large, with 2 single beds, very clean but kind of bare. The bathroom was nicely redone with a very large modern shower. The room faced the back of the hotel (no view) which brought me a great rate of roughly $125 US / night including breakfast. The main pros were: an "honest" buffet breakfast served in the 2nd floor dining room (facing the beach), a cozy modern bar in the small lobby, a small but wonderful rooftop pool and bar,and... of course, an amazing location smack in the middle of Ipanema, facing the world famous beach. For a short stay, and the fact I was outside of the hotel most of the time, this was perfect for me. For a longer stay, this would depend on your need for luxury, but I still think that you will not be disappointed. As for Rio, this is one of the most spectacular sites I have seen and the locals (Cariocas) are just unbelievably friendly and welcoming. Also, I felt safe in and around the hotel at all times.

Great location across a road from the beach. Hotel has umbrellas, chairs, etc you can borrow for a few hours on a great beach. Great area for a walk in the city, good restaurants all around. Breakfast buffet very good. Rooms comfortable and clean. Staff was very helpful. Worth a stay in beautiful RIO

I stayed in Sol Ipanema Hotel last june for 5 days with 2 friends and we had a very good experience. The location is excellent, rooms are confortable and clean, breakfast buffet with many interesting options. You don't need a car because you are just steps away from the best spot in Ipanema Beach.
