Ok so in Rio, there are no hotels right on the water..there is a blvd that separtes you from the water....Two main beaches, Ipanema and Copacabana. We found Ipanema to be more trendy/hip vs Copa is a more older clientele and hergo fancier, nicer hotels.
This hotel is like 2 blocks from the boyz beach so very centrally located plus a lotta bars/restaurants/clubs/etc. We didn't see really that many hotels around us that were ocean (blvd really) front - most of the surrounding buildings were residential. Our room was the 'deluxe' one so we had the ocean view..but it isn't like right in front of the bed...the windows are to the right. No balconies. The room itself - meh...not very nice or anything like that...prob in line with your typical best western type place. But it gets the job done, and again, the location is fabulous.
Notes: This is a town where thrus - sunday is super happenin'...not so much during the beginning of the week. Sundays are THE day to hit the beach....mass crowds = mass fun. Also - learn a bit of portuguese...spanish will not get you by. Oh, and the full day Rio tour - total waste of time - half the day you are being shuttled around to hotels to pick up ppl....take two half day tours on two consecutive days instead...its well worth the extra few bucks, plus you won't have to suffer the absolutely horrible lunch they feed you.
