After poking around online and checking TripAdvisor reviews, I recently decided to stay at the Hotel George for a short weekend stay in the nation's capital.
I'm happy to report that this was an excellent choice for many reasons, chief among them its location. Located within a stone's throw from the Capitol steps, the Hotel George is an ideal place to stay while visiting DC. From there were were able to walk to the Newseum (the primary purpose of this getaway weekend), the Mall, the Museum of the American Indian, Union Station, etc.
The hotel, part of the Kimpton Group, is a small, boutique-style hotel. We particularly liked the modern touches and room amenities, which included a flat-screen TV tucked behind a closet, a real hair dryer, separate tub and shower, and inspired animal print robes.
The hotel's staff is accommodating and knowledgeable. I spoke to the concierge a couple of times prior to arrival to get restaurant recommendations. Their suggestion of Zaytinya, a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurant specializing in small plates, was excellent.
One thing to keep in mind...,if you're driving, there is self-parking across the street from the hotel that's a fraction of the cost of the hotel's parking.
