My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon in late June and LOVED it! We did a lot of research to find *the* place, and we're really excited when we stumbled across this locally owned gem. We were not looking for a large chain-like resort and wanted a place with lots of privacy and local charm - all of which we got at Stonefield! I'll touch on some of the highlights (sorry it's so long...feel free to skim):

1. THE VILLA:
(a) The private pools are AWESOME. We stayed in Frangipani, clearly the favorite of most guests, and the pool was nearly the same size as the main pool at the resort. It was warm enough to get in by 8am (the sun was hitting it by then) and stayed nice into the darker hours. We got some of the best sun in the morning hours.
(b) Wildlife at the resort is incredible. If you are interested in local island birds, lizards, etc. this is a great place. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch watching hummingbirds enjoy the banana plants. Watch out for giant ants though; they have some mighty large pincers! In addition to those creatures, you will also find a lot of stray cats around the entire resort. One in particular, with her 2 kittens, enjoyed spending time on the porch with us.
(c) The room itself was great. Incredible view of the Petit Piton and the sea (from what we could tell, they all had a great view), comfy bed, HUGE closet, good sized bathroom, nice kitchenette that served our purposes (snacks, wine, beer, etc.). Only problem we had with the room was the toilette wouldn't stop running, but when we placed a work order they came the same day to fix it. (Speedy service!) Also, our villa had AC (not sure if they all do or not), which was really great in the evenings as it got muggy in the room. During the day it was usually nice enough to just keep the doors open and let the breeze come in.
(d) For anybody worried about safety (there are a few horror stories out there about robberies on St. Lucia) - the doors are VERY secure. All of the doors have multiple locks, and I felt very safe the entire time. The resort is also has security walking around 24 hours a day. And on a similar note, the resort is great about respecting your privacy. If you want to be left alone in your villa all week, they don't ask a thing - you just hang a strand of beads on your villa entrance.

2. THE RESORT
(a) The staff was extremely wonderful. Everyone was very friendly and always asking if we needed anything. They restaurant staff got to know us (and other guests) by our 2nd or 3rd dinner and we enjoyed getting to know them all.
(b) As I said before, they are speedy on service. We also had a problem with our safe (I think it was my fault), and they also had it fixed the same day.
(c) Our spa treatment is one of the few things I think might have room for improvement. Our massages were heavenly, but the mani/pedi aspect could have been better for what we paid. I get the impression they are trying to strengthen that part of the resort, so I won't complain that much.
(d) The shuttle service offered was also really great to have. If you do a package with outings, they are ready to pick you up and drop you off at your scheduled time. You can also take it into Soufriere (the town about a mile away) or the Jalouise Beach (up the road at another resort) but you have to be sure to let them know both when you want to go to town and when you want to be picked up (otherwise you get stranded like we did!). Just something we wish we'd known before hand.
(e) Our package had some great activities (waterfall/nature trail and sunset cruise), and they have many others to choose from. Some are through the resort, and others are coordinated through another agency. Either way, the front desk takes care of all the arrangements and can charge it to your room to prevent complication. We were more interested in relaxing at the pool or beach, so didn't do many of them, yet were impressed with the selection.
(f) The food was really good! Every night is a different menu with a different "theme," so there was always variety. The portions are HUGE though, and we quickly became known as the couple who couldn't clear their plates. Nonetheless, it was all pretty delicious! As for the bar - great job there too! Drinks were reasonable (hit up the 2 for 1 happy hour Wednesday and Sunday) and tasted great!

A FEW OTHER THINGS:
(a) On our last day we decided to take a shuttle to Anse Chastanet ( a beach on the other side of town, about a 20 minute/$20 taxi cab ride) to do something different. We highly discourage people from doing this because the resort that oversees the beach property is very rude to people who are not guests there. We were not allowed to use any of the umbrellas or chairs, and were also told that we had to get a full day pass in order to snorkel (i.e. - you couldn't just rent the gear for that). If you want to go to a beach, we really enjoyed Jalouise, a quick 10 minute FREE shuttle from Stonefield. They give you free snorkel gear, have a great bar, and while they charge you for chairs, don't really enforce it. We also kayaked for $10/hour and enjoyed begin able to see both pitons after paddling out. In addition to the great view, we got to see a sea turtle (considered good luck on the island).
(b) The ride from the airport is NOT as bad as I thought it was going to be. If you are very sensitive to car-sickness, maybe you'd have issues, but the view is so beautiful it kind of distracts you from the curving road.

Overall, we really had a great time and enjoyed the resort. I highly recommend it and would be happy to answer any other questions if anybody has one.

“Lived up to all the expectations....”

....and having used this site to choose the hotel, the expectations were high !! It's not cheap, but we used this as a sort of honeymoon, so it was worth it. Privacy, luxury, beauty, peace. Great.

There's plenty of good stuff written about this hotel already, so I thought I'd just add a few comments and a few recommendations.

- The staff are great, welcomed us by name when we arrived, and gave us an upgrade to Frangipani when we arrived, so we were off to a flyer. Friendliness continued throughout our stay.
- Definitely agree with some comments here that Frangipani, Tamarind and Manchineel are the best villas for privacy. Frangipani was awesome, and worth paying extra for next time.
- We went in the rainy season and yes, there were a few bugs and mossies, but it is the Caribbean.
- If Stonefield stepped up it's food one notch, you'd only need to leave this place to go to the beach !!

Recommendations:
- Hire a car (or preferably a 4x4 for the road to the beach). The roads are not that bad, and you will save tons on taxis and have loads more flexibility. Everywhere we went could be done without tours.
- Eat at Hummingbird - excellent food.
- Stay here rather than the resorts with beaches : they are really nice, but little sterile, and you have limited options for food etc. They are an easy drive away.
- Think twice about the fish fry up North - we felt this was a bit touristy now, and not worth the drive.

Stay here again ? St Lucia isn't the liveliest of Islands, however to chill out and relax, without a doubt, once we've saved up the pennies....

“Great Weekend Getaway”

We stayed for a long weekend in the Limemill Villa with another couple and although it was a bit big for us (we didn't even use one bedroom), the extra space was relaxing. The villa itself was wonderful, and the outdoor showers with views of the Pitons are something I definitely miss in the mornings. The pool was clean and large and the outdoor patio area is where we spend most of our time playing board games and reading. The property itself was well kept and very nice. We were right behind the reception area, so privacy was a little limited but it was not noisy or uncomfortable. The food was one of the best parts of the trip, and we rarely left to eat elsewhere it was so good. Definitely try some of the homemade banana jam!

There is no real beach to speak of here, but that didn't bother us as we had the pool. We went snorkeling at Jalousie beach which I highly recommend as well.

“So beautiful!!”

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon. We loved every second of it! We stayed in one of the little cottages just down from the restaurant. It was a perfect little cottage! With an outdoor shower, porch with hammock, and everything! It was exactly what I would have pictured as a little girl when I would picture a honeymoon.

The views are incredible. We arrived in the dark at night and were stunned in the morning to come out and see the mountains rising around us, ocean out in front. At night we'd lay in the hammock and watch the shooting stars. I've never seen sky like that before.

The hotel was great about arranging little excursions for us. We toured the rain forest, hiked the bigger mountain, and did other little things hither and yon. The hotel is not on a beach, but they have a little shuttle to take you over to the beach if that's your desire.

It's paradise! The restaurant was pretty good, though not excellent. We ate there almost exclusively during our stay. We had rented a car, but after our first drive on the St. Lucian roads, we took it back and said we'd just hoof it from that point on.

I'd highly recommend this to anybody who wanted to see the island and didn't want to stay in the structure of a Sandals or something. 10 out of 10!!

“Loved Stonefield”

My wife and I just returned from St. Lucia after spending 4 nights at Stonefield. the vacation there was absolutely perfect. We loved the place and highly recommend it.

We stayed at the Frangipany villa which was amazing and very secluded. We picked it based on previous reviews and it was an excellent choice. The villa itself is beautifull and so are the ocean, jungle and Piton views. We had up to 8 different types of birds, in all colors, passing by the villa and stopping by while we were having our breakfast each morning. The pool is very large and the garden shower is really fun.
Important tips about the villas, some villas have a large pool (like Fringipani) while other have a smaller pool. I think that the larger pool is well worth the extra 25-30 $ per night. Also some of the villas are less secluded, so it's best to rely on reviews here and pick the right villa in advance.
The resort itself is relatively small and intimate, full of trees and vegetation. The staff are very helpfull but more than that they are really friendly, always happy to chat or help with anything. As I understand, the resort is usually not full (We usually saw no more than 8-15 people at dinner) and so it has this intimate and relaxed vibe to it. By the way, all the St. Lucians we met were nice and even friendly.

We had dinner at the Mango Tree restaurant each night and also most lunches and loved the place. The restaurant has a deck that goes just over the mountain side, so you have an excellent view of the sea and piton and the restaurant takes its name from the surrounding mango trees. Food was excellent and almost every dish was outstanding, and it is reasonably priced.

The soufriere area is beautifull. We saw the botanical gardens, sulfur springs and volcano, all together a very recommneded 2 hours tour. We took the stonefield shuttle twice to go to the Jalousie beach. Beautifull beah with calm water and excellent snorkelling. The Jalousie resort looks excellent but I would probably pick stonefield over it. Jalousie has a huge benefit with the beach (you need to take a 10 minute shuttle there from stonefield although shuttles are also needed from the Jalousie villas to the beach) but stonefield is much smaller and more intimate and our villa there seemed better than the villas we saw at the Jalousie.

All in all, amazing vacation at an amazing resort on an amazing island.
