My wife and I just returned from St. Lucia after spending 4 nights at Stonefield. the vacation there was absolutely perfect. We loved the place and highly recommend it.

We stayed at the Frangipany villa which was amazing and very secluded. We picked it based on previous reviews and it was an excellent choice. The villa itself is beautifull and so are the ocean, jungle and Piton views. We had up to 8 different types of birds, in all colors, passing by the villa and stopping by while we were having our breakfast each morning. The pool is very large and the garden shower is really fun.
Important tips about the villas, some villas have a large pool (like Fringipani) while other have a smaller pool. I think that the larger pool is well worth the extra 25-30 $ per night. Also some of the villas are less secluded, so it's best to rely on reviews here and pick the right villa in advance.
The resort itself is relatively small and intimate, full of trees and vegetation. The staff are very helpfull but more than that they are really friendly, always happy to chat or help with anything. As I understand, the resort is usually not full (We usually saw no more than 8-15 people at dinner) and so it has this intimate and relaxed vibe to it. By the way, all the St. Lucians we met were nice and even friendly.

We had dinner at the Mango Tree restaurant each night and also most lunches and loved the place. The restaurant has a deck that goes just over the mountain side, so you have an excellent view of the sea and piton and the restaurant takes its name from the surrounding mango trees. Food was excellent and almost every dish was outstanding, and it is reasonably priced.

The soufriere area is beautifull. We saw the botanical gardens, sulfur springs and volcano, all together a very recommneded 2 hours tour. We took the stonefield shuttle twice to go to the Jalousie beach. Beautifull beah with calm water and excellent snorkelling. The Jalousie resort looks excellent but I would probably pick stonefield over it. Jalousie has a huge benefit with the beach (you need to take a 10 minute shuttle there from stonefield although shuttles are also needed from the Jalousie villas to the beach) but stonefield is much smaller and more intimate and our villa there seemed better than the villas we saw at the Jalousie.

All in all, amazing vacation at an amazing resort on an amazing island.

It is what they say - Very romantic and generally peaceful. We have very fond memories. We stayed in Oleander - My only major concern was that the security people hung out just below our deck and chit chated all afternoon. This was very dissapointing and disruptive. Most likely this review would have been a 5 had it not been for that. We had great weather and it wasn't hot! And I didn't feel that bugs were an issue either.

“Amazing Honeymoon--Can't wait to go back!!”

We had an amazing honeymoon in Frangipani in June 2007. In our opinion, you can't beat the privacy, pool, or villa for the $$. The pool is enormous and warm and the view is spectacular. The people directly below could maybe see the far corner of our deck and if there were people in the Plantation House, they could see the other far corner. Other than that, it seemed completely private and perfect for honeymooners. The outdoor shower was fun, but a little chilly if it was early in the morning or late at night. I suggest showering late in the afternoon.

If you're looking for Sandals, for the love of Pete, go to Sandals, you won't find that kind of thing here. If you want seclusion, privacy, a little rustic, and a lot of value for the price...this is your place. We checked rates and reviews on the island and this is definitely the best.

We, like the other couple, had drinks and dinner at Ladera. It was really crowded in the bar and crazy hot if you're at the edge. Get there early and get in the second row of setees so you don't boil like we did. The view is still great from a few feet back and in the shade. We also would not eat there again. We paid about twice the amount for the food and taste-wise, it didn't compare w/the food at the Mango Tree. Just get your $7 daquiri, enjoy the sunset and get back to Stonefield! We also missed the shak-shak band that night and were really disappointed. (I think you guys could have written our review!!)

The ladies and gentlemen who run the Mango Tree were so friendly and helpful. And by the way, you're in the Caribbean, relax, enjoy the view, have a drink, and an appetizer. I agree w/ others...what's the rush??? If you're in a hurry, like we were a couple of mornings at breakfast, all you have to do is tell them, and they'll happily oblige. We just said, "We have to catch the taxi in 30 minutes, can we get a rush on our order, please?" That's it.

Also, we had our driver from the airport stop at the big supermarket on the way to Stonefield and got supplies to make drinks...we just didn't have any ice. By the end of the week, the bartender saw my husband coming and started filling an ice bucket for him. The only time we got told no on the ice was when they were having a wedding that night and needed all they could make and one of their ice makers was on the fritz.

We climbed the Gros Piton, which was totally exhausting, but worth it...once. We went scuba diving at Jalousie, horseback riding at the plantation, the rainforest hike, and the sunset cruise. All were fun, but we couldn't wait to get back to Frangipani and chill out by the pool everyday.

All in all, we absolutely adored our time at Stonefield and picked it entirely based on Trip Advisor reviews. So thanks to all, sorry we're so late posting our review. We're actually headed back for Spring Break and positively can't wait!!

Thanks for the lovely lovely stay, Stonefield, we'll see you in a few weeks!

We spent a blissful honeymoon at Stonefield in early May 2007 and truly couldn't have asked for a more perfect destination (and we owe it all to the reviews we read on TripAdvisor!)! From the moment we walked out to the taxi and found that only one other couple was heading to Stonefield with us (compared to the huge line of Sandals-bound cabs), we knew we were in for a special experience. We were put in Frangipani, which we can't imagine is surpassed (or even matched) by any of the other villas on the estate. Once we took in the ultra-private location (villas on one side and below, deep ravine on the other), stunning views of the ocean and Petit Piton, pool so large and gorgeous that no one who's seen our photos can believe we had it to ourselves, and double hammock, we didn't think we'd want to leave all week. And other than a walk into Soufriere to pick up Piton beer; a visit to Jalousie Beach for sand and snorkeling; the few short excursions included in our honeymoon package (drive-in volcano, botanical gardens, and sunset catamaran sail); and one dinner at nearby Dasheene resort, we didn't!! For a couple of newlyweds seeking seclusion, privacy, relaxation, and a shady vantage point for reading and enjoying the view (the hammock was unbeatable!), Frangipani was absolutely idyllic. Each day as we compared notes with more "motivated" fellow honeymooners and heard that they'd gone island exploring, horseback riding, Piton climbing, or deep-sea fishing, we had to admit we'd done practically nothing. We just couldn't imagine leaving Frangipani!

When we did venture out to breakfast or dinner at the Mango Tree, we were very happy with the food and attentiveness; virtually all the staff at Stonefield are pleasant and helpful. (Every time we've read comments from people frustrated by "slow service," we have to question where they thought they were rushing off to! The whole point of Stonefield is kicking back and enjoying the slow pace.) Our one regret from the entire trip is that we went to dinner at Dasheene the night the Mango Tree hosted a local shak-shak band -- we caught the very end and it seemed like we missed a wonderful evening, while Dasheene's food was underwhelming and pricey (although the view is unmissable -- skip dinner and just have a sunset drink in the lounge).

All of the excursions included in our package were well worth it, especially the hour-long massages at the villa and the sunset sail (a highlight of the trip, complete with delicious rum punch and local snacks). We don't recommend walking into Soufriere, though -- with only a narrow shoulder in spots, the walk didn't seem especially safe, and the town itself wasn't a very pleasant experience. We'd recommend taking the Stonefield taxi to get drinks and supplies at the supermarket and heading right back. (Note: the villas have corkscrews and fridges...and there's nothing better than enjoying a glass of wine with your honey in your own private hammock while watching the sunset!)

Despite my pre-visit concerns about the bug situation, we had no problems at all (keeping the doors to the villa closed probably helped, as did the time of year; it might be a different story during the rainy season). We did have some positive "critter sightings," though, including a tiny green frog, a stick insect, some geckos, and the adorable feral cats who frequent the Mango Tree and occasionally, much to our delight, showed up at our villa. There must be a bat cave around the base of Petit Piton: the second the sun disappeared below the horizon each evening, the bats came out and put on quite a show swooping through the darkening sky (there are a couple of fruit trees near the entrance to Frangipani that they seemed to love -- which, for some, might make for a somewhat hair-raising return to the villa after a lovely Mango Tree dinner). And for us city folk, falling asleep every night to the sound of tree frogs and insects was an amazing experience (how anyone could think otherwise is a complete mystery to us!)!

In short, the only problem we have with our Stonefield stay was that it was so incredible that we're almost afraid to risk comparing a future visit to our perfect honeymoon! But we have a feeling its unique allure will be hard to resist.

We recently (Jan. 13-20) stayed at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort and enjoyed a week of beauty and peace, staying in the Orchid villa. This is not a resort for those into nightlife and action but rather into hiking, reading, reconnecting with nature and each other-the place to finish writing your novel, renewing your soul and your relationship. As previous reviews note-no phone, no tv, no ac, but taxis and shuttles will deliver you to other nearby resorts and villages with those ammenities. Soufriere fishing village is a 20 min. walk to, steeper and longer back, and has grocery shopping to stock your villa kitchen and local restaurants for variety. The Mango Tree restaurant at Stonefield is excellent and reasonable and we enjoyed most dinners there. The free shuttle to nearby Jalousie Beach Resort delivers you to this Hilton resort located between the Pitons where you can pay $20. per beach chair or just use your Stonefield towel under a tree. Hardier souls may want to rent a car but driving is on the left and roads are very steep and curvy. Staff was excellent and helpful, especially new assistant manager Lincoln.
