We spent 3 days in Rio in October and while trying to get over jet lag, on our second night, chose this restaurant from our guide book as it was close to our hotel in Ipanema. I've been twice in Gula Gula and both times the food was very good. This is a place for locals not for tourists. It's not the kind of restaurant for a special dinner, but is ideal for lunch. more

I loved Gula Gula. It represents so well the lifestyle of the cariocas. This is were the locals go for a good salad / light meal. And they have something for everyone, so if you looking for heartier food, they've got it too. You'll definitelly see beautiful people there, probably on their way back or to the beach. Gula Gula has different restaurants in Rio, but the best spot is at Henrique Dumont Street. It is in a big house transformed into a nice restaurant. The food is light and delicious and the lemon pie is awesome! more
