I am a huge fan of European Medieval and Renaissance religious art, and love spending time at the National Gallery of Art. The gallery is a 10 minute walk from the Smithsonian Metro stop, which I believe is on the orange or blue line. Like the other Smithsonians, admission is free. My friend and I went into DC for the... more

This review is for the West Building (5) and the East Building (2 at best). The West Building is a great art museum with very traditional art up to about 1900 or so. I think I liked it better than the National Gallery in London and it's collection of prints and paintings are astounding. Whenever in DC, I try to... more

Free. Filled with some of the greatist art on the North American continent. Open from 10 - 5, and 11-6 on Sundays. Most of the guards are even nice. Did I mention it's free? so, just stop by for 1/2 hour if that's all you have. Even the building is lovely. The only Leonardo Da Vinci portrait in North America... more

The Cascade Cafe was a welcoming oasis after a morning full of sight-seeing in DC. The food was fresh and colorful - offering some healthy options along with not-so-healthy options too. It's set up cafeteria style, but, the food is restaurant quality -- think Nordstrom cafe. The food is set up in stations -- there's a made to order salad... more

I lived in Washington, DC for six years and every time I needed to relax I went directly to the National Gallery of Art. It has so many wonderful sculptures, paintings and etchings...They recently made the leap and now consider photography art so they have a special section just for photography which I appreciate (since I am also a photographer).... more

All the things that make the NGOA so wonderful - also may limit its reach to the common tourist. By American Art Museum standards - it is huge. A good slow study of the countless galleries could easily consume a day. Masterpiece after masterpiece lines the wall - for the average tourist - it can be an overload. My experience... more

On a cold rainy day, Washington, DC can be a great place to live. Yesterday was no exception as I journeyed down to the National Mall to take in the latest exhibit at the National Gallery of Art. Running through May 7th, the NGA has just opened a new Cézanne exhibit, featuring well over 100 original work. Normally, the National... more

This was our first visit to the National Gallery of Art and we were able to see the temporary Talouse-Latrec exhibit which consists of 140 works. This wasn't my hubby's favorite but we are glad we saw it. I loved the sculptures in the West Building as well as the opportunity to see some of the Masters. I hadn't been... more

The National Gallery of Art, conveniently located on the Mall near the US Capitol Bldg., is one the premier art museums in the Western hemisphere. Both the"old" building and the 1970's East Wing are stunning, inside and out. The collections, esp. those of Eurpean paintings from 1450 to 1900, are among the best on the East Coast. The museums shop... more
