Huge, majestic, at the same time understated. If you have only two places in DC, this should be the first. The grandeour only will be a match any child's imagination. The reality of Lincoln's failures and failings with the great accompliments should be a testiomony to everyone. In many ways it plaes to the 1000's of items of the Smithsonian,... more

For all first-time visitors, the Lincoln Memorial (as well as the other points of interest) around the Mall area is a must. You've seen it in many books, numerous movies, etc...take the time to walk to the memorial itself and see it! The iconic image of Lincoln overlooking the Mall and its pools is extremely memorable, particularly with his words... more

This was the reason I wanted to visit Dc and it measured up! First of all-from tv and pictures it looks very close to the Washington monument. It is a HIKE! We walked down from the monument and the weather was beautiful but it took us 15 minutes or so, past the pool and tons of ducks! The Memorial is... more

Its relatively simple - a large Greek style building, a 19 foot statue of Lincoln in the center, inscribed above it the words: "In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever". To the left, the Gettysburg address carved into one of the walls. To... more

A very impressive monument. You don't realize how big it is until you actually see it. Kinda like the Eiffel Tower. A gorgeous view looking toward the Washington Monument. Monumental crowds also, even during off season. Put on your walking shoes, because it's not near any easy access metro stop. You can hop a taxi to Foggy Bottom though in... more

All the monument are the best at night. But the Lincoln memorial is stunning all on it's own. I loved the inscription on the walls. more

Lots of steps but well worth the climb. My children studied Abraham Lincoln in school last year and this was a must do on our trip this past June. The awe you experience is just over-whelming. more

This is a must see when you are in DC. In addition to the statue of Lincoln, his inauguration speech is carved into one of the interior walls. This is also a great place to spend some time out of the sun and to get some good shots of the reflecting pool and washington monument. more

It is quite a walk from the Metro, especially on a hot summer day, but once you get there it is worth it. During the days it is a bit too crowded for any type of contemplation, so take it in during the evening or early morning. As a foreigner, it is easier to apprechiate the skillful artwork than the... more
