We had to walk past the market hall pretty much every day, so we got a few looks at it. It's fairly big and has enough room to have a leisurely wander around the numerous stalls. On the ground floor, you'll walk past a paprika stall, then another, etc. And the same can be said about meat, pastry, veg, etc.... more

Excellent place to go to buy your paprika and souvenirs. the first hall when you walk in from the main entrance is full of fruit, veg, meat, bread, paprika, cheese etc, all at excellent prices. The upper level is mostly souvenirs which are a lot cheaper than you'll buy on the main streets. I would definately recommend a visit to... more

We took an hour to look for souvenirs in the upstairs craft area. There were plenty of places that had tablecloths, women's scarves (pashmina), shirts, trinkets, magnets, toys, and all of those kinds of things. On the upstairs levels there were also several food bar type of places where you could order lunch. Downstairs was the food market that had... more

Having been in markets throughout Europe I found this one to be pretty mundane, in that there was a lot of repitition, sausage and cured meats....more sausage and cured meats.... apples, cabbage and oranges...more apples cabbage and oranges - though this was in part due to the time of year (Feb). They have a souvenir section upstairs but it is... more

I love visiting local markets and I love architecture so this was a must-see for me - and I absolutely loved it! As well as being a tourist atttraction, the market is also a daily part of life for locals. The market is adjacent to the Liberty Bridge and is open Monday -Saturday from 6am. The ground floor foodhall displays... more

We spent several hours at the market, and loved every minute. Here you'll see every strata of people -- housewives doing their grocery shopping, men meeting for a beer, visitors buying souvenirs. The souvenirs (paprika, embroidered linens, cans of goose liver, russian dolls, etc.) were relatively inexpensive and plentiful. It's a great place to have a beer or food at... more

We ended up visiting this market everyday. You can get a huge plate of traditional food (including goulash) in the upstairs section for a tiny price (i think it was the equivalent of about £1). The food market downstairs is huge and offers a wide variety of Hungarian ingredients. The best thing about this market is that it is not... more

We went to the market on the first morning we were in Budapest. My husband and I generally visit markets in any country we are in; we find them to be a good indicator of the standadrd of living of the locals. This one is great! Lots of wonderful food stalls downstairs where we bought paprika and salami at excellent... more

For me a must see in Budapest is another of Gustav Eiffel's (albeit less famous than the Eiffel Tower in Paris) buildings in the Central Market Hall... In my 4 days in Budapest this January 2007, I made 2 trips to this market for a number of reasons including the beautiful (though somewhat reconstructed) architecture. The food floor is phenomenal,... more

We are quite surprised that the Central Market Hall gets such good reviews here. Certainly, both the outside and inside of the hall are beautiful and it is large, however it seems that once you have seen 5 stalls you've seen everything there is to offer. The lower floor offers a good selection of fruit, veg, meat and other foodstuffs... more
