We started our two week trip in Christchurch, and went to the botanical gardens our first day in New Zealand. I think the botanical gardens is a good places to begin to get a feel of New Zealand plants and wildlife. Christchurch is very proud of its botannical gardens which are very near the city centre and quite large. Hagley Park which houses the botannical gardens is quite large - so make sure you head for the 'botannical' bit which is round the back of the museum, otherwise you could end up strolling around numerous football pitches which isn't very interesting.... more
